JOIN US FOR A SPECIAL SUMMER GARDEN TEA AT THE JOHN FELL HOUSE

For the fifth consecutive year The John Fell House Tea Room, along with Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery and Florist, will present a “Summer Garden Tea” at The Historic John Fell House on Thursday, June 8th from noon to 2:30.

Specialists from Rohsler’s will lead an informative discussion on finding the right perennials for challenging areas in your garden. Topics such as “how to dress up gloomy gardens and parched soil beneath trees” and “how to take advantage of rocky areas with the right plants that will flourish and become a focal point in your landscape” and many other points will be addressed. Have your questions ready and the Rohsler’s team will help you find a solution.  A wide variety of plants and flowers will be displayed and offered for sale.

Tea Room volunteers will graciously serve guests a delicious Traditional English Tea with a selection of finger sandwiches and scones accompanied with clotted cream, lemon curd, and jam. As always the Tea will finish with a variety of sweet treats for dessert.

Guests will be able to select from an assortment of premium teas that will complement the menu.

NW Bergen History Coalition Dinner Program on World War I on October 25, at the Ramapo College Pavilion

NW Bergen History Coalition Dinner Program on World War I on October 25

A hundred years ago, Woodrow Wilson was running for re-election on the slogan: “I kept us out of the war.” The majority of Americans were isolationist, and since the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915, Wilson had worked hard to get Germany to sign an agreement respecting the rights of neutral countries. But just five months after the 1916 election, America entered World War I.

On Tuesday, October 25 at 6 P.M., the NW Bergen History Coalition will present a program at the Ramapo College Pavilion featuring a presentation on “The American Home Front During World War I” by Ramapo College Professor, Dr. Carter Jones Meyer. A Ramapo history student will be at each table.

Come hear an insightful presentation by Dr. Meyer about why Wilson changed his mind and the steps the U.S. Government took to unify America in order to win the war, from the propaganda efforts of the Committee on Public Information to the Espionage and Sedition Acts that challenged the democratic concept of freedom.

Dr. Meyer is a graduate of Skidmore College and Brown University and has taught at Ramapo since 1992. She is the recipient of the Bischoff Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Reservations are limited. Tickets are $40. For information, call Kay Yeomans, 201-327-2236, or stop by The Hermitage or the Mahwah Museum to pick up a reservation form. The NW Bergen History Coalition is made up of museums and historical societies from 11 towns: Allendale, Franklin Lakes, Glen Rock, Ho-Ho-Kus,  Mahwah, Oakland, Ramsey, Ridgewood, Upper Saddle River, Waldwick, and Wyckoff.
